We\u2019ve been waiting for so long for this, Finally now we can use our iPhone as a USB Pendrive that too without installing any client-side application on our PC\/MAC.\u00a0 All you need to install\u00a0USB Drive<\/strong><\/span> app from cydia, and it is available for free. (Yes this is like USB Mass Storage coming to the iPhone \/ iPod touch)<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Once\u00a0\u00a0USB Drive<\/strong><\/span> is installed you need to specify the size that you want to use as a USB Drive, Suppose you specify 1GB then that much of space will be allocated and will not be used by iTunes, its like as if you are creating a new partition, So do this carefully according to your usage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

USB Drive has 3 modes which are Default, Drive+iTunes and Drive only.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Default<\/strong>:<\/span> This is iPhone default mode. USB Drive doesn\u2019t install daemon application nor modify any USB settings. Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) is active as well as iTunes synchronization and tethering over USB.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Drive+iTunes<\/span>:<\/strong> In this mode USB Drive replaces PTP interface with Mass Storage interface and let you use iPhone as USB Drive. At the same time you can perform iTunes synchronization, developers can use XCode debugger, etc. In this mode USB Mass Storage will not work on Windows with iTunes or Apple USB Drivers installed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drive only<\/span>:<\/strong> This mode is to resolve compatibility issue with Windows and iTunes. In this mode USB Drive changes iPhone device USB product ID. This will prevent iTunes synchronization, but USB Mass Storage will work on Windows (and other operation systems of course). Switching to the Default or Drive + iTunesmodes restores iTunes sync.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Everytime you select a mode you will be prompted for reboot to active the new mode that you had chose.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: In case you dont want to use your iPhone as Pendrive, so to free that space you can delete the partition, just by swiping on the drive name that you created.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

It works perfectly on all 3modes, I also tested on Ubuntu and it worked like a normal pendrive though Data-Transfer rate was not that good, but its good.
\nThis is great tweak it really took so long. USB Drive is currently on Beta stage, but I didn\u2019t find issues so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

To install USB Drive need to first add this repo\u00a0http:\/\/apt.dmytro.me<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Here are the steps to add\u00a0\u00a0dmytro<\/span> repo:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Launch cydia, Select Manage.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Select Sources and after that tap the Edit button.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Now you will see the Add button, tap on it.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Now you will be prompted for the url address.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Type\u00a0apt.dmytro.me<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span> <\/span><\/span>and\u00a0 tap on Add Source button.
    \n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    • Once the source is added tap on Done button.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Now you will see apt.dmyto.me repo, just tap on it and you will see USB Drive app, install it.<\/span><\/h4>\n
