Korea MSN Got Nuked
Microsoft?s South Korean MSN portal site got ?electronically nuked? last week, but according to Microsoft, there is no damage–well sort of.
On Friday, Microsoft admitted that hackers got into its South Korean MSN Web portal, but said it knew of no impact on users of the site.
Microsoft confirmed earlier reports that its portal, operated by an outside company, was the ?target of Internet hackers?. Yet, Microsoft declined to comment on reports that the effort was an attempt to steal passwords.
Microsoft said it took the appropriate action to resolve the issue and stop any additional criminal activity and is cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
Microsoft spokesman, Adam Sohn added that Microsoft ?is not currently aware of any customer impact as a result of this criminal activity but will continue to investigate the incident and take any necessary action to help protect customers.?
He said the company is cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the investigation.
There are reports that hackers planted software code to steal passwords from visitors and that passwords might have been stolen from the Korean MSN site up to three days.
At this time, it is uncertain when the public will know if any privacy information had been actually violated.
